Arctos & Bird, the company that created and owns Bison Courtyard, is a business that reinvests profits to lead improvements to the environment and local culture. It is also a business with a goal to inspire others.
One of the ways Arctos & Bird achieves its goals is through triple bottom line lease incentives to Bison Courtyard tenants. Tenants are eligible for rebates on their rent if they can demonstrately meet mutually-agreed-upon goals. Typically, these goals are tailored to the tenant's business, and involve:
- reducing environmental impact;
- improving environmental performance;
- contributing to the community; or
- adopting policies and practices that enhance the environmental and/or social performance of the Courtyard.
Triple bottom line leases are a way to establish business relationships that place tangible value on environmental and community returns as well as financial returns.
Bison Courtyard's triple bottom line was featured in the December 2007 issue of the International Council of Shopping Centers publication, Shopping Centers Today.
